Optimizing Delivery for Vodacom & Tigo
Strategies to ensure 99.9% delivery rates on Tanzania's largest networks.
The Network Landscape
Vodacom and Tigo together serve over 70% of Tanzania's mobile users. Both networks have strict spam filters. If you send the same generic message to 5,000 people instantly, you risk being flagged.
Sakura's Smart Throttling
Our system automatically throttles your campaign to match network throughput limits (approximately 50 SMS/second). However, you can maximize delivery by:
Best Practices
- Personalization: Use variables like
{name}to make every message unique. This is the single most effective anti-spam measure. - Clean Lists: Regularly remove inactive numbers. Use the Audience Cleaning Tool to save credits.
- Timing: Avoid sending between 9 PM and 6 AM unless it's transactional (OTP/Alerts).
- Content: Avoid ALL CAPS, excessive punctuation (!!!), and known spam trigger words.
- Gradual Ramp-Up: For new sender IDs, start with small batches (500-1000) and gradually increase volume.
Network-Specific Tips
- Vodacom: Most aggressive spam filter. Always use personalization. Avoid sending identical messages in batches over 1,000.
- Tigo: Rate-limits new sender IDs. Allow 48 hours after approval before high-volume sends.
- Airtel: Most lenient, but still respect timing rules.
- Halotel: Good delivery rates but slower DLR confirmation (up to 24 hours).
